|WHEN ARRIVING FROM AMMAN||We’ll make it into a 10-day program, plus you’ll visit the Kings Way, Dana Nature Reserve, Little Petra, the Dead Sea and Madaba.|
Day 1 (B) When you arrive at the Aqaba airport, the private driver is waiting for you with a name sign. From here he will take you to Petra, (1 hr 45min ride) where you spend the night at Petra B&B.
Day 2 (B) After breakfast, you will be taken down to the Visitor Centre for your first day in this marvelous Wonder of the World.
Option A: Walk through the winding Siq to the most famous of the facades – The Treasury, then hike up to High Place of Sacrifice for the views over the western side of the site and the sacrificial altars. We climb down via the other side of the mountain, leading to the Garden Temple Complex and Lost Soldiers Tomb, before finishing at the Theater.
Option B: Add on a second hike up to Jebel Al Khubtha, climbing up Nabatean steps and through a wadi to get to the top of the mountain where you can find fantastic views down onto the Treasury.
Day 3 (B) A great way to spend a second day in Petra is to take the backdoor route from Little Petra. With this route you can avoid the 800 steps up to the Monastery, which is the the ‘normal’ way to the largest of Petra’s monuments.
Option A: In the morning, the driver will collect you and your guide to drive to Little Petra. Here you can spend some time visiting this small site before climbing up a spectacular trail with views over Wadi Araba and beyond until you reach the Monastery where you can walk down the stairs back to the Visitor Centre, where your driver will take you back to Petra B&B.
Option B: After walking down the steps from the Monastery, your route out of Petra will be along the pretty Wadi As Sharkiyye, up a meandering stream-bed, past pools of water and back to Little Petra. The driver will collect you from here and return you to Petra B&B
Day 4 (B): The driver will collect you after breakfast and take you down to the Visitor Centre.
Option A: The route goes through the Siq and then up to the Royal Tombs. Then we climb up old Nabatean steps and through a wadi to get to the top of Jebel al Kubtha, for fantastic views down onto the Treasury. The return to Petra B&B will be round the side of Petra, through Wadi Mataha to the old fortress.
Option B: We’ll travel through the Siq and down to the Petra Basin, and then your guide will take you up Um Al Biyarra, one of the highest climbs in Petra with some stunning views. At the top of this mountain, you will also find the remains of an Edomite settlement and 8 large bell shaped cisterns. We’ll exit Petra via a side route, along Wadi Mataha, up a narrow canyon (some scrambling involved) and then up to the old fortress, before back to Petra B&B.
Day 5 (B): Time to really get into the often unexplored canyons and valleys of Petra.
Option A: Today the driver will take you to the second entrance of Petra, near to the Bedouin Village. A short hike down the hill, brings you to Wadi Muaysra al Gharbiyye. This is one of the 3 valleys that leads back though to Little Petra. It’s a pleasant walk though white rock domes and oleanders. Then you return down another of the valleys, Wadi Skarkiyya, down a meandering streambed, past pools, back down to the Petra Basin.
Option B: You’ll also enter Petra via the Bedouin Village, where half way down the hill, you’ll find the entrance to Wadi Abu Ullayqa. This stony river bed, passes through a small gorge with boulders to scramble up and possible pools (in springtime) to wade through before emerging into Wadi Ghurab. You have just done one of the ‘3 Valleys’ walks and now for the 2nd. A walk west, brings you to the entrance of Muaysra al Gharbiyye, a less challenging walk than the first, but equally beautiful surroundings though white rock domes and oleanders down a river bed to the Petra Basin.
A walk back through the Siq takes you to your driver and on to a relaxing Hammam (Turkish bath) to get rid of those aching muscles. This is your final night at Petra B&B.
Day 6 (B,L,D): After breakfast, a car will transfer you to Wadi Rum. Here you have a full day jeep tour, exploring the beauty of the desert – Nabatean inscriptions, huge sand dunes and rock canyons. Lunch will be provided, and at the end of the day, a BBQ dinner, followed by a night under the desert stars.
Day 7 (B): After breakfast, the driver will pick you up for a short transfer to Aqaba (45mins). Here you can spend the day at the beach relaxing, take a trip on a glass bottom boat, or mooch about the shops, to pick up some last minute souvenirs.
Day 8 (B): The driver will pick you up to go to the airport for your departure home.
