Travel north for the ultimate hiking escape. Upon your arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the Bait al Baraka staff, a locally runned Bed & Breakfast. Set up after the ideas of an initiative of local and international professionals, who stand out with their ideas about sustainable and local community based tourism and how to spread attention and awareness about this important aspect of traveling.

The coming two days you will get to know more about this most northern part of Jordan. A hiking guide will take you among the most beautiful routes with stunning view points over the surrounding valleys. Take a look into Palestine and Syria. As this is the border point where three ancient countries meet.

When you come back from a morning of hiking, you will dive into some local crafts. Choose between a basket weaving course or you can learn more about bee keeping. Both are still done in the old traditional way and is still being taught from generation to generation.

The next day a local guide will take you on an interesting tour through 2.400 years of history. Get to know Um Qais, also known as Ghadara. Hidden in the north this lost gem is often not visited by travelers to Jordan. Though it’s one of the most important Roman archaeological sites found in Jordan.
During this trip you will enjoy tasty homemade breakfasts, a lunch and two diners. Optional you can buy a lunch box to take with you.

This hiking escape experience to Um Qais is available all year around. A supplement is charged during public holidays.


Day 1

You are expected to check in at Bait al Baraka B&B in Um Qais at 18:00. After a quick fresh up, a homemade dinner is served at 19:00. After diner, you have time to relax. Overnight stay at Bait al Baraka B&B.

Day 2
After a good night, a homemade breakfast is served in the garden. Then a hiking guide will take you for a half day hike. There are different hikes, all starting from the B&B. At the finish of the trail, a car will wait you to transfer you back to the B&B. In the afternoon, you will join a basket weaving or beekeeping course. During the basket weaving class you will learn more about this old tradition that is still being used and taught from generation to generation. You will leave with your own handmade coaster. And you can buy baskets the woman already made. During the beekeeping class, you will learn more about the bee queendom. Beekeeping suits are provided for this class, so you can meet the bees without any problem. Afterword’s, you can taste different kinds of honey and maybe buy some honey as a present to take home. In the evening, a homemade dinner will be served. Overnight stay at Bait al Baraka B&B.

Day 3

After a homemade breakfast in the garden, it’s time to explore the ancient site of Um Qais, also known as Ghadara. Um Qais is definitely one of Jordan’s highlights to visit. Just like Jerash, it’s a Decapolis city, ruled by the Romans and existing for 2.400 years. It boasts a spectacular view of the Sea of Galilee (Palestine) that is like no other. Enjoy a site tour from an experience local guide that interprets the history and geopolitics of the site. You will be back at the B&B to eat a fresh and homemade lunch. After that you are free to stay and relax in the garden or on the rooftop, or to hit the road back to from where you came.
