Safety precautions

In order to select the right horse for you and to minimize the risks, we ask you to fill in the booking form in which we ask you about your riding abilities. The area for the horseriding in Petra you ride during this tour can be challenging at times, think about rocky roads and steep hills. The guide always has the right to change the program if your experience is not adequate or if you put other riders or horses at risk.

The horses

We select the horses we use for our tours and rides on their health and strength. Only healthy animals are rented from their owners: on this way we contribute to the local economy as well as stimulate animal welfare. The guide knows each and every horse so please follow his advice at all times.

Day 1: Arrival on Amman Queen Alia International Airport. Here a driver waits you with a name sign to bring you to the 3* hotel in Madaba for the overnight stay. Depending on your arrival time you could make a self- guided tour through the little city of Madaba and visit the St. George church with its famous mosaics and the Madaba Archaeological park.

Day 2: (B) From Madaba you’ll drive southwards and via the Kings Highway towards Petra. But before you’re there, you’ll first make a stop at the Karak Crusaders Castle and at the Dana Village for some beautiful views over the Biosphere reserve. The Kings Highway is a beautiful and scenic road, and with the stops along the way this will make a great road trip before arriving in Petra, where you’ll sleep in Petra B&B or a 3* hotel. The evening you could spend with one of the optional activities such as a dinner with locals or a visit to Petra by Night.

Day 3: (B) Today you’ll visit Petra! Walk through the mystic Siq until you reach the Treasury. You’ll see why Petra is called one of the modern seven world wonders and be amazed by the huge amount of tombs that you’ll find on the site. After you have passed the Treasury you can walk up to the High Place of Sacrifice, or up the stairs towards the biggest monument of Petra; the Monastery. After a day of walking and scrambling in Petra you go back towards the hotel. In the evening the guide will come by to introduce himself and to get a better idea of your experience in horseback riding.

Day 4: (B, L) Today is the first day of your horseback riding adventure! From the town of Petra you’ll ride over the mountains towards Petra. You will visit this UNESCO site by horse and ride towards the High Place of Sacrifice. After a break on the hottest moments of the day and a lunch, you’ll go back to the stables. Overnight stay in Petra B&B or 3* hotel in Petra.

Day 5: (B, L) After breakfast you’ll saddle the horses and continue riding towards the Little Petra site, which is also known as Siq Al Barid. Here you’ll leave the horses while you make a visit to this site. After you walked through the small Siq, you’ll come in the Little Petra site. The Nabateans used this site as a depot for storing and controlling goods before they entered the Petra site. You’ll also find unique fresco’s in one of the caves! After you finished you go back towards the horses to continue your ride back towards the stables. Overnight stay in Petra B&B or 3* hotel in Petra.

Day 6: (B, L, D) Today you’ll ride towards the Al Haye area where you can find remains of an old village. You’ll come across a spring on the way which makes a nice stop for lunch. After lunch you continue to explore the area by horse before returning back to the stables. After freshening up and in the late afternoon you will go towards the valley of the moon: Wadi Rum. Here you will stay the night in a lovely Bedouin Camp, where a traditional prepared dinner will be served. You can choose to sleep in a Bedouin tent or opt to sleep under the stars.

Day 7: (B, L) After breakfast a Bedouin guide will take you on a jeep-tour through the Protected Area of Wadi Rum. Discover the most beautiful and scenic places. Play in sand dunes or climb upon one of the rock bridges and arches. Around noon you will be brought back to the campsite for a BBQ lunch. In the afternoon you are transferred back to Madaba, for a free evening and overnight stay in a 3* hotel.
